About Lochcarron

View of Loch Carron from the school

Lochcarron,  a small community of around 800 inhabitants,  stretches along the edge of the sea loch which gives the village its name.  Situated in the heart of Wester Ross, Lochcarron is just ninety minutes from Inverness Airport.   Strathcarron Station, two miles away, is on the famous Kyle line from Inverness, possibly Britain's most scenic railway journey.  The Island of Skye is a short drive away, as are the famous mountains of Torridon,  Eilean Donan Castle and   the tourist haunts of Plockton, Applecross  and Inverewe Gardens.

Lochcarron is ideally placed for the student who wishes to combine learning English with enjoying a  holiday exploring the beauties of  the Western Highlands of Scotland.

No matter what time of year, no matter what the weather, visitors to Wester Ross are constantly amazed by the colours, textures and contrasts of the rugged scenery.  This is a place for the artist, the photographer and the hill-walker, for the hunter or fisherman or simply for the person who enjoys being at peace amidst the quiet beauty of the Ross-shire hills. A visit to Lochcarron will transport you from the rush and stress of modern life and big cities.

Around the village there are ample facilities for visitors to participate in deer stalking and fishing .  Lochcarron has its own nine-hole golf course.  Canoes and bicycles are available for hire.

The people of Lochcarron live on fish farming, forestry, crofting and various crafts such as pottery and painting.  The Lochcarron  Weavers are the world's biggest manufacturers of authentic Scottish tartans.

This is an area rich in history.  Here you can learn about the Scottish  Clan Wars or investigate local folk-lore.  Or laze away a few hours at Loch Ness, watching for the Monster!
